Research - Background of the Indie Folk/Folk Rock Genre

Folk Rock is a genre which arose around the mid-1960s in the US and the UK, which combines aspects of folk and rock music.
Indie Folk is a genre heavily influenced mainly by the the folk rock of the 60s, which arose in the 1990s.
Indie Folk and Folk Rock artists are associated with the natural aspects of life, nature is integral to their image. They convey a sense of liberty and appear to hold a carefree attitude towards life unlike many other genres which may focus more on money and glamour.
Nowadays, the genre doesn't seem to be as successful or popular as other, more mainstream genres, perhaps because of their way of life, which seems to play a central role in their music. Ofcourse, other mainstream musicians from other genres reflect their lifestyle in their music, but there are more listeners who may relate to them.

Folk artists tend to be more artistic, especially with their music videos. This is another reason we chose a band from this genre, as we wanted that same creative freedom when making our own digipak cover and music video.
